Application
A new direct synthesis of sulfur ylides
Typical procedure: A dry Schlenk tube is charged with Martin sulfurane (201.8 mg). The sulfurane is dissolved by diethyl ether (2 mL), followed by the addition of ethyl acetoacetate (26 micro-L) via a syringe. After stirring at room temperature for 30 min, the solvent is removed under reduced pressure, and the residue is purified by chromatography on silica gel (eluent: hexane/ethyl acetate = 1/3) to give ethyl 3-oxo-2-(diphenylsulfuranylidene)butanoate (62.2 mg, 99 %) as a white solid.
