Application
TMPyP: A Cationic Porphyrin as a G-quadruplex Stabilizer and a Singlet Oxygen Producer
TMPyP (other name: TMPyP4 tosylate) is a cationic porphyrin with a strong affinity for DNA and a high yield of singlet oxygen generation upon light activation. TMPyP intercalates into and stabilizes guanine quadruplexes (G4s), which are non-Watson-Crick four-stranded nucleic acid structures held together by non-canonical G-G base tetrads. In this way, TMPyP inhibits telomerase activity, thereby blocking the growth and proliferation of cancer cells.1,3) TMPyP also interacts with HSV-1 G4s and inhibits polymerase progression in vitro; in infected cells.2,3) In addition, TMPyP is used as a photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy (PDT).3,4) (The product is for research use only.)
