α-Asarone: A Naturally Occurring Phenylpropene with Numerous Pharmacological Activities
α-Asarone (trans-asarone), a naturally occurring phenylpropene, is found in several plants, e.g., Acorus species and Guatteria gaumeriiem Greenman.1,2) α-Asarone is also a component of certain essential oil used in a traditional medicine. It has been reported that α-asarone have numerous pharmacological activities,1,2) including antioxidant3) and neuroprotective4,5) activities. Meanwhile, α-asarone has genotoxic and carcinogenic activities in rodents (liver and small intestine).6) (The product is for research purpose only.)
