Application
Ceftibuten: A Third-Generation β-Lactamase-Stable, Broad-Spectrum Cephalosporin
Ceftibuten (7432-s) is a third-generation cephalosporin that exhibits good antimicrobial activity against many Gram-negative and some Gram-positive organisms. Ceftibuten exerts its bactericidal action by binding to essential target proteins of the bacterial cell wall. This binding leads to inhibition of cell-wall synthesis. Especially, ceftibuten has a greater affinity for penicillin-binding protein 3 (PBP 3) more than other cephalosporins. Ceftibuten has a carboxyethylidene substituent at the 7 position, and thereby it is stable against both β-lactamases of Gram-negative bacteria and those mediated by R plasmids. (The product is for research purpose only.)
