Application
Chlorpromazine Hydrochloride: A Dopamine Inhibitor with Antipsychotic Activity
Chlorpromazine hydrochloride is a phenothiazine antipsychotic agent. The precise mechanism of actions is not fully understood. However, chlorpromazine works as a dopamine inhibitor, and the antagonism central dopaminergic function may be related to the therapeutic effect in psychotic conditions. Chlorpromazine can also produce α-adrenergic receptor antagonist action which may produce hypotension. Besides, it is reported that UV irradiation of chlorpromazine produces reactive free radicals which have DNA damaging properties. (The product is for research purpose only.)
