A Useful Reagent for the Synthesis of Piperazines

Synthesis of 1-Cyclohexyl-4-tosylpiperazine
N,N-Bis[2-(p-tolylsulfonyloxy)ethyl]-p-toluenesulfonamide (B4136, 5.83 g, 10.3 mmol), K2CO3 (P1748, 8.00 g, 58.0 mmol), cyclohexylamine (C0494, 0.99 g, 10.0 mmol), and anhydrous CH3CN (50 mL) are added to a round-bottom flask. The mixture is heated to reflux under an N2 atmosphere for 12 h. The mixture is cooled to r.t. and filtered. The filtrate is concentrated, and the residue is purified by flash chromatography (SiO2, CH2Cl2-CH3OH-Et3N as eluent) to give 1-cyclohexyl-4-tosylpiperazine as a white solid in 83% yield (2.67 g).
