Application
Brefeldin A: A Macrolide Lactone Antibiotic used as an Inhibitor of Protein Trafficking and Secretion
Brefeldin A (BFA) is a natural fungal macrolide lactone antibiotic. Studies has demonstrated that BFA reversibly interferes with protein trafficking and secretion mediated by the Golgi apparatus and endoplasmic reticulum. Therefore, BFA has been used as a tool to inhibit protein secretion and study the secretory pathway, effects of BFA on Golgi apparatus and other subcellular systems.
