Application
Apigenin: A Bioactive Flavonoid with Anti-Inflammatory, Anti-Oxidant and Anti-Cancer Properties
Apigenin is abundantly present in common fruits and vegetables. It has been recognized as a bioactive flavonoid shown to possess remarkable anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-cancer properties, and used as a traditional medicine. Apigenin has been reported to have a broad range of biological activities. On the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activities, it show suppression of lipopolysaccharide-induced cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and nitric oxide synthase-2 activity. On the anti-cancer activities, it is a low toxicity and non-mutagenic protein kinase inhibitor. It inhibits the growth of thyroid cancer cells by attenuating epidermal growth factor receptor (EGF-R) tyrosine phosphorylation and phosphorylation of ERK mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK). (The product is for research purpose only.)
