组蛋白，是一种将DNA包装成染色质的蛋白质，参与了基因表达的调控。组蛋白赖氨酸的甲基化在基因调控中发挥着重要的作用，在组蛋白赖氨酸甲基转移酶(KMTs)和组蛋白赖氨酸去甲基化酶(KDMs)的控制下此过程可逆。
曾有报道指出，KDM亚类，KDM2，KDM4，KDM5和KDM7与肿瘤的发生有关。Suzuki、Miyata等人开发出的N-(9-Cyclopropyl-1-oxononyl)-N-hydroxy-β-alanine(NCDM-64)，可以选择性的抑制KDM2/7。因此，NCDM-64有望被用作抗癌药物。
