Perhexiline Maleate: A Carnitine Palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT1) and 2 (CPT2) Inhibitor
Perhexiline maleate is a carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT1) and 2 (CPT2) inhibitor originally developed in the 1970s as an anti-anginal drug. CPT1/2 are mitochondrial enzymes responsible for the mitochondrial uptake of long chain fatty acids. Perhexiline maleate reduces fatty acid metabolism by inhibiting CPT1/2.1,2) Recently, perhexiline maleate has also received attention as an anticancer agent.3) (The product is for research use only.)
