Bretylium Tosylate: A Class III Antiarrhythmic Agent
Bretylium tosylate is a class III antiarrhythmic agent with prominent experimental and clinical antifibrillatory activity. Its antiarrhythmic action is significantly different from that of other antiarrhythmic agents. It is an adrenergic neuron blocker that is selectively absorbed at peripheral adrenergic nerve terminals where it first releases norepinephrine [A0906] (sympathomimetic effect) and then produces adrenergic neuron blockade. It also acts by blocking K+ channels and is classified as a class III antiarrhythmic. (The product is for research purpose only.)
