Building Block for Functional Organic Boron Compounds
Boron-containing π-electron materials have attracted increasingly more attention because of their unique properties stemming from p-π* conjugation between the vacant p orbital on the boron atom with the π* orbital of the π-conjugated framework. For example, Yamaguchi et al. have reported the synthesis of 2,5-bis[4-(N,N-diphenylamino)phenylethynyl]benzene derivatives possessing boryl groups at the side positions of the main chain using dimesitylfluoroborane as a starting material. This molecule exhibits an intense fluorescence, whose quantum yield is 90% even in the solid state.
