Application
Difluprednate: A Potent Topical Corticosteroid
Difluprednate (DFBA) is a potent topical corticosteroid owing to its high affinity for glucocorticoid receptors. Actually, it is a prodrug that is converted to its active metabolite difluoroprednisolone butyrate (DFB) by deacetylation after penetration. Corticosteroids are commonly used to control inflammation, and difluprednate ophthalmic emulsion is commonly used for the treatment of anterior uveitis. There is no generally accepted explanation for the mechanism of action of corticosteroids. However, corticosteroids are thought to act by the induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory anti-inflammatory proteins, collectively called lipocortins, and inhibiting the release of arachidonic acid from membrane phospholipids by phospholipase A2. (The product is for research purpose only.)
