Application
Abacavir: A Nucleoside Analog Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitor (RTI)
Abacavir is a nucleoside analog reverse transcriptase inhibitor (RTI) that inhibits HIV-1 in vitro with a potency similar to that of zidovudine [A2052]. Resistance to abacavir develops relatively slowly. Cross-resistance between abacavir and other RTIs, namely didanosine [D3066], zalcitabine [D3581] or lamivudine [L0217], but not zidovudine or stavudine [D3580], has been reported in vitro. HLA-B*5701 genetic screening have been reported to prevent drug hypersensitivity reactions caused by abacavir.
