Disulfiram (other name: tetraethylthiuram disulfide), developed in the 19th century,1) has been used as an organic accelerator of rubber vulcanization.2,3) There are some applications using dislfiram for an additive of living radical polymerization,4,5) a Ca2+-ATPase activator,6) a V-ATPase inhibitor7) and so on.
It was revealed by E. Jacobsen et al. in 1948 that dislfiram absorbed into the body inhibits aldehyde dehydrogenase during the ethanol metabolism, and provokes acute symptoms because of the accumulation of acetaldehyde in the body.8) So disfiram has a deterrent effect of alcoholism.9)
