Bergenin, a C-glucoside of 4-O-methyl gallic acid, is isolated from different plants such as Mallotus japonicas. Bergenin has been reported to exhibit a wide array of biological activities such as antihepatotoxic, antiulcerogenic, anti-HIV, antifungal, hepatoprotective, antiarrhythmic, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and burn wound healing properties.
