Application
AMD-3100 Octahydrochloride: A CXC Chemokine Receptor Type 4 (CXCR4) Antagonist
AMD-3100 octahydrochloride (plerixafor octahydrochloride) is an antagonist of CXC chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4), which is a chemokine receptor expressed on immune cells and cancer cells. CXCR4 antagonists, including AMD-3100, were initially developed for the treatment of HIV-1 (AIDS), where CXCR4 functions as a co-receptor for virus entry into T cells.1) Subsequently, CXCR4 antagonists were noticed to induce leukocytosis, and are currently used for mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells.2,3) Recently, it has been reported that CXCR4 induces migration of cancer cells and is important for processes such as metastasis.3,4) Therefore, CXCR4 antagonists are expected to regulate these tumor metastatic processes. (The product is for research purpose only.)
