Application to the Synthesis of [5,5] Carbon Nanotube

Corannulene is an aromatic polycyclic hydrocarbon with a unique bowl-shaped structure. Scott et al. have reported the synthesis of the polyarene by flash vacuum pyrolysis (FVP) using corannulene. This polyarene compound is an equivalent of a short end-capped [5,5] carbon nanotube, therefore, the chemical synthesis of a [5,5] carbon nanotube is expected by using the polyarene compound as a template to grow a nanotube.
