Under an Ar atmosphere, a mixture of tosylhydrazone 1 (0.2 mmol), alkyne 2 (0.5 mmol) and AlCl3 (0.5 mmol) in dichloroethane (2 mL) is stirred at r.t. for 30–60 min. After quenching with H2O, the product is extracted with CH2Cl2 and the organic layer is washed with a sat. Na2CO3 solution and brine, dried over anhydrous MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. Purification by chromatography on silica gel (petroleum ether:EtOAc) affords the product 3.
