Weinreb Ketone Synthesis
The functional moiety N,O-Dimethylhydroxylamide, most commonly known as the Weinreb amide has a variety of useful synthetic applications. Weinreb amides react with a wide array of Grignard reagents to provide substituted ketone products often in high yield. Additionally, reducing metal hydrides (LAH, DiBAL-H) react with Weinreb amides to provide aldehyde products. Weinreb amides are generally tolerant to other reaction conditions lending to their use in synthesis and research.
