Experimental procedure: Iodination of 5'-bromo-2'-hydroxyacetophenone (B2061)
5'-Bromo-2'-hydroxyacetophenone (0.22 g, 1.0 mmol, B2061) and pyridine iodine monochlorideethanol (15 mL) and refluxed on a water bath for 2 h. The conten (0.24 g, 1.0 mmol, P2086) are dissolved in mt is poured in ice cold water; the solid that gets separated is filtered and recrystallized from ethyl alcohol to afford 5'-bromo-2'-hydroxy-3’-iodoacetophenone in 85% yield. By using two equivalents of pyridine iodine monochloride and one equivalent of substrate, diiodinated products are obtained.
