Silylation Reagents [Protecting Reagents]

 Silyl groups are the most commonly used protecting groups to protect hydroxy groups, and also used for the protection of carboxyl groups and amino groups. TMS and TES groups are commonly used as general protecting groups, while TIPS, TBS (TBDMS) and TBDPS groups are used for introducing bulky substituents. Silyl protecting groups are usually deprotected by acid or fl uoride ion mediated hydrolysis.
