Piracetam: A Derivative of Cyclic GABA Acting as a Nootropic Agent
Piracetam, a derivative of cyclic γ-aminobutyric acid (cyclic GABA), has been reported to act as a nootropic agent that improves learning, memory, and brain metabolism in animal models. Although its mechanism of action remains unknown exactly, piracetam will modify neurotransmission systems (including cholinergic and glutamatergic) within the brain, and can help to improve the metabolic environment essential for good neuronal function.
