Application
Quorum sensing research / Biofilm research
It has been reported that exposure of phloretin to Pectobacterium brasiliense (Pb1692), an emerging soft-rot pathogen of potato, reduced phenotypes that are associated with quorum sensing (QS), i.e., motility, biofilm formation, secretion of plant cell wall-degrading enzymes, production of acyl–homoserine lactone (AHL) signaling molecules etc.1) In addition, this compound was shown to inhibit biofilm formation of Acinetobacter baumannii.2)

Application
Phloretin: A Dihydrochalcone with Many Interesting Biological Properties
Phloretin is a dihydrochalcone and a polyphenol, can be found in apple tree leaves. Phloretin and its glycosylated derivative (phlorizin [P0248]) have many interesting biological properties. For example, phloretin inhibits sodium glucose co-transporters (SGLTs), though the inhibition is weaker than by phlorizin. In addition, phloretin shows an antioxidant activity in peroxynitrite scavenging and the inhibition of lipid peroxidation.
