Application
H-Phosphonate-Mediated Amination of Quinoline N-Oxides with Trialkylamines
Typical procedure (R=H, R1=R2=R3=Et): Quinoline-N-oxide (145 mg, 1.0 mmol), triethylamine (304 mg, 3.0 mmol), diisopropyl phosphite (332 mg, 2.0 mmol) and CCl4 (0.5 mL) in THF (15 mL) is stirred at room temperature for 8 h. The solvent is evaporated under vacuum, and the residue is quenched with water (5 mL), extracted with ethyl acetate (3 × 5 mL). The combined organic layers are washed with brine (15 mL) and dried over Na2SO4. After filtration, the solvent is evaporated in vacuo. The crude product is purified by silica gel column chromatography (petroleum ether: ethyl acetate = 10:1) to give N, N-diethylquinolin-2-amine (143 mg, 83%) as a yellow oil.
