Application
Eplerenone: A Selective Mineralocorticoid Receptor Antagonist

Eplerenone is a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist. It binds to the receptor and locks the binding of aldosterone, a component of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone-system (RAAS). Aldosterone binds to mineralocorticoid receptors in tissues, and increases blood pressure through induction of sodium reabsorption and possibly other mechanisms. Eplerenone works by blocking the actions of aldosterone, and resulting in decreasing blood pressure. It is similar to spironolactone [S0260], though it is much more selective for the receptor in comparison. (The product is for research purpose only.)
