Application
Gingipain inhibitor

Catechin derivatives, which included (-)-epigallocatechin gallate, (-)-epicatechin gallate, (-)-gallocatechin gallate, and (-)-catechin gallate, have been reported to inhibit Arg-gingipain (Rgp) in Porphyromonas gingivalis.1) The 50% inhibitory concentrations (IC50s) of these catechin derivatives for Rgp ranged from 3 to 5 μM. (-)-Epicatechin gallate is one of these derivatives. The compound was also shown to inhibit Lys-gingipain (Kgp), although weaker than Rgp.2)
