Ceftazidime: A Third Generation Semisynthetic Cephalosporin Antibiotic with Activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Ceftazidime is a third generation semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic, which is chemically synthesized form
7-aminocephalosporanic acid (7-ACA) [A1266]. It has broad spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, however has weaker activity against Gram-positive bacteria. Furthermore, it is different from other cephalosporins by virtue of its activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
