Application
Synthesis of N-Ylides
Experimental procedure: A solution of 1-amino-2-methylpyridinium iodide (3 mmol) and ethyl cyanoacetate (4 g, 35 mmol) in 50 mL of ethanol is stirred with K2CO3 (5 g) at room temperature for 3 days. The reaction mixture is then filtered to remove insoluble inorganic substances and the filtrate is concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue is separated by column chromatography (alumina) using ether and the CHCl3 as eluents to give the ylide 1 in 69 % yeild.
