2,2'-Bipyridine Derivatives for the Synthesis of Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs)
[2,2'-Bipyridine]-5,5'-dicarbaldehyde (1) and [2,2'-bipyridine]-5,5'-diamine (2) are bipyridine derivatives that can be used in the synthesis of covalent organic frameworks (COFs). COFs are crystalline porous materials with a wide range of promising applications such as catalysis, gas adsorption, and gas separation, due to their porosity and well-defined periodic structures. Additionally, functionalized COFs utilizing 1 or 2 have been developed by coordinating to metal atoms at bipyridine sites or quaternizing bipyridine sites using 1,2-dibromoethane. For instance, catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction in water electrolysis,1) photocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction,2) and materials for photothermal conversion3) have been reported.
