Sertraline hydrochloride is a selective serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT [
S0370]) reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that has only very weak effects on norepinephrine [
A0906] and dopamine [
A0305] neuronal reuptake.
in vitro studies have shown that sertraline has no significant affinity for adrenergic (α
1, α
2, β), cholinergic, GABA, dopaminergic, histaminergic, serotonergic (5HT
1A, 5HT
1B, 5HT
2), or benzodiazepine receptors. In addition, sertraline has minimal inhibitory effects on the major cytochrome P450 enzymes, and few drug-drug interactions of clinical significance have been documented. (The product is for research purpose only.)
