Prochlorperazine Dimaleate: A Dopamine Receptor Antagonist with Antipsychotic Activity
Prochlorperazine dimaleate is a phenothiazine antipsychotic agent with a piperazine moiety in the side chain. Prochlorperazine possesses strong antiemetic and antipsychotic activity with less sedative action than chlorpromazine [
C2481]. The precise mechanism of actions is not fully understood. However, prochlorperazine works as a dopamine and α-adrenergic receptors antagonist, and the functions may be related to the therapeutic effect in psychotic conditions. In addition, there is good evidence to suggest that, in common with other phenothiazine agents, prochlorperazine has antibacterial activity. (The product is for research purpose only.)
