A Trifluoromethylating Reagent
Experimental procedure2): Aldehyde (1 mmol) is added to a solution of potassium trimethoxy(trifluoromethyl)borate (254 mg, 1.2 mmol) in DMF (1.2 mL). The reaction flask is immersed in pre-heated water bath and stirred at 50 °C at 1 h. After cooling to room temperature, aqueous HCl (3 mL, 0.5 mol/L) and water (7 mL) are added, and the aqueous phase is extracted with Et2O (3 × 5 mL). The combined organic layer is filtered through Na2SO4, concentrated, and the residue is purified by column chromatography.
