Smilagenin: A Steroidal Sapogenin with Neuroprotective and Neuro-Restorative Activities

Smilagenin (PYM50028) is a steroidal sapogenin from Anemarrhena asphodeloides and Pelargonium hortorum which are widely used in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. There are reports that smilagenin improves memory in aged rats by increasing muscarinic receptor subtype 1 (M₁) receptor density,¹⁾ and has neuroprotective and neuro-restorative potential for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.^2-4) (The product is for research purpose only.)
