Formoterol Fumarate: A Long-Acting and Selective β2-Adrenoceptor Agonist (LABA)
Formoterol fumarate is a long-acting and selective β
2-adrenoceptor agonist (LABA) such as indacaterol maleate [
I0927], causing bronchodilation by relaxing the smooth muscle in the airway. Formoterol has more potent activity than short acting β
2-adrenoceptor agonist, such as salbutamol [
S0531]. Combination inhalers containing formoterol fumarate and a corticosteroid (eg. budesonide [
B3909], beclometasone dipropionate [
B4464], fluticasone propionate [
F0525] or mometasone furoate [
M2354]) are often used for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. (The product is for research purpose only.)
