Application
RNA合成酵素を阻害する抗生物質,ムピロシン
Mupirocin is a polyketide antibiotic produced by fermentation using the organism Pseudomonas fluorescens. Mupirocin is fungicidally active against a wide range of Gram-positive bacteria including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Mupirocin is also active against certain Gram-negative bacteria. Mupirocin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by reversibly and specifically binding to bacterial isoleucyl transfer-RNA synthetase. Due to its mode of action, mupirocin does not demonstrate cross resistance with other classes of antibiotic agents. The calcium salt of mupirocin is used as an ointment to control the carriage of MRSA on skin and in nasal passages as well as for various skin infections. Recently, mupirocin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus is increasingly being reported in many parts of the world. (The product is for research purpose only.)
