Application
Olsalazine Sodium: A Prodrug of 5-Aminosalicylic Acid (5-ASA)
Olsalazine sodium is a prodrug of 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) [A0317] which is an anti-inflammatory agent. Olsalazine is formed by combining two 5-ASA molecules with an azo bond, and is split by intestinal bacteria to two 5-ASA. Olsalazine sodium is commonly used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease (CD) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
