3,7-Dihydrobenzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']difuran-2,6-dione (1) is a powerful electron acceptor building block useful for the development of π-conjugated polymers. Some polymers made from acceptor units containing 1 have been reported as n-type organic field-effect transistor (OFET) materials exhibiting high electron mobilities.1-3) 1 is also gaining attention as a building block for organic thermoelectric materials, and organic thermoelectric materials with high electrical conductivities more than 10 Scm−1 and high power factors more than 10 μWm−1K−2 have been realized.4,5) These high performances are thought to be achieved by effective n-type doping through the deep lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) levels and good π-π stacking.4,5) Furthermore, it have reported that a highly conductive and solution processable n-type conductive polymer with conductivities over 2000 Scm−1 is synthesized through the oxidative polymerization of 1 and subsequent n-doping.6,7)
