Xu
et al. have reported the regio- and stereoselective halosulfonylation of terminal alkynes. According to their results, the reaction proceeds regio- and stereoselectively using sulfonylhydrazides as the sulfonyl precursor and iron halide as the halide source in the presence of
tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP), affording the corresponding (
E)-β-halo vinylsulfones. This reaction has attracted considerable attention because both the vinyl halide and vinyl sulfone moiety in the resulting β-halo vinylsulfones are important intermediates in organic synthesis.
