Methyl Caffeate: A Phenylpropanoid with Anti-Diabetic and Anti-Microbial Activities

Methyl caffeate is a naturally occurring phenylpropanoid found in the fruit of Solanum torvum, which is widely used as a traditional medicine to treat diabetes and bacterial infection.1,2) It has been demonstrated that methyl caffeate has anti-hyperglycemic, anti-diabetic activities in diabetic rat, regulating GLUT4 (glucose transporter type 4) and regenerating pancreatic β–cells.1) Furthermore, methyl caffeate exerts anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects.2-4) (The product is for research purpose only.)
