Diphenyl(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide (= DPTBP) is a photoinitiator that generates radicals by the activation of not only UV but also visible light sources (up to 420 nm).1) It has the advantage of being almost colorless due to its narrow absorption region in visible light. These features help in manufacturing transparent 3D objects through stereolithography printing. For instance, it has been reported that DPTBP/PETA/HDODA mixed light-curable resin using pentaerythritol tetraacrylate (= PETA) and 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate (= HDODA) as monomers have both excellent mechanical properties and transparency.1) In addition, DPTBP has also been used for three-dimensional printing of fused silica glass.2)
