Application
Fingolimod hydrochloride (FTY720): An Immunomodulatory Agent Working as a Sphingosine 1-Phosphate Receptor Agonist
Fingolimod was first synthesized in 1992 by chemical modification of an immunosuppressive natural product, myriocin which is a metabolite of the fungus. Fingolimod hydrochloride (FTY720) is an orally active immunomodulatory agent, and inhibits lymphocyte emigration from lymphoid organs. Recent data show that FTY720 is a prodrug, and phosphorylated FTY720 is an agonist at sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) receptors. FTY720 is commonly used for the treatment of multiple sclerosis, an inflammatory disorder of the central nervous system. (The product is for research purpose only.)
