Aminating Agent

Experimental procedure: 3-Nitro-4-phenylpyridine (10 mmol) in DMSO (30 mL) is added dropwise to a stirred solution of 4-amino-1,2,4-triazole (35 mmol) and tBuOK (20 mmol) in DMSO (60 mL) under nitrogen atmosphere. The reaction mixture is stirred for 5 h at room temperature, and then poured into water (200 mL) saturated with NH4Cl. The aqueous phase is extracted with CH2Cl2 (3 x 100 mL), the combined organic phases is evaporated, and the residue is recrystallized from water-methanol to give 1 (79% yield) as a yellow solid.
