A Bioactive Polyphenol in Hops and Beer
Hops (Humulus lupulus) includes not only bitter and aroma components but also some polyphenols. Xanthohumol, a kind of polyphenol, has a structure of prenylchalcone and shows various bioactivities.1,2) For example, the activities have been reported as an antiproliferative activity of cancer,3) a chemopreventive activity,4) a bone resorption inhibition activity,5) an antioxidative activity,6) a diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT, an enzyme related to lipogenesis) inhibition activity7) and so on.
