Application
Dirithromycin: A Macrolide Antibiotic with Outstanding Activity against Campylobacter
Dirithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic derived from erythromycin [E0751]. Dirithromycin is a prodrug, and is hydrolyzed in vivo to its major active metabolite, erythromycilamine.1) Although the antimicrobial spectrum of dirithromycin is similar to that of erythromycin, it reportedly has outstanding activity against Campylobacter.2) In addition, erythromycin inhibits cytochrome P450 isoform 3A4 (CYP3A4), but dirithromycin and azithromycin [A2076] neither inhibit CYP3A4 nor are implicated in clinically significant drug-drug interactions.3) (The product is for research purpose only.)
