It is known that solid monomeric 1,3-dihydroxyacetone gradually transforms into a stable dimeric form during storage.1)
Additionally, NMR studies have shown that 1,3-dihydroxyacetone adopts monomeric, hydrated, and dimeric hemiketal forms in aqueous solution, reaching an equilibrium state biased toward the monomer.2)
