Enantioselective Transesterification of Alcohols by Using Ionic Liquid-coated Lipase
No.136(December 2008)
Organic synthesis using enzymatic reactions has been intensively investigated from the standpoint of green chemistry. Among the systems investigated, lipases are amongst the most widely used enzymes due to their usefulness for applying to various substrates. However, it is well known that the activity of lipases are generally reduced in the organic solvents and that enantioselectivity of the enzyme-mediated reactionis significantly dependent on the solvent used. Recently, Ito et al. have developed an ionic liquid-coated lipase (1) and have reported its use in synthesis. According to their report, it was demonstrated that reactivity and enantioselectivity are significantly improved and the required loading of the enzyme is significantly decreased in the asymmetric acylation of secondary alcohols, as compared to those of lipase without ionic liquid coating.
