Application
Zofenopril Calcium: An Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitor
Zofenopril calcium is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. Zofenopril is prodrug which is rapidly hydrolyzed to the active metabolite zofenoprilat by hepatic cleavage of the thioester group. It has been reported that zofenopril is characterized by high lipophilicity, selective cardiac ACE inhibition, and antioxidant and tissue protective activities. ACE, a peptidyl dipeptidase, circulates in the plasma and is located on the surface of endothelial cells. ACE is catalyzes the conversion of angiotensin I to the vasoconstrictor substance, angiotensin II. Thereby, ACE inhibitors reduce peripheral vascular resistance and blood pressure. For your reference, [B5315] is a key synthetic intermediate of zofenopril. (The product is for research purpose only.)
