Application
Tolterodine L-Tartrate: A Competitive Antagonist of Acetylcholine at Postganglionic Muscarinic Receptors
Tolterodine L-tartrate is a competitive antagonist of acetylcholine at postganglionic muscarinic receptors. Tolterodine is metabolized in the liver, resulting in the formation of 5-hydroxymethyl tolterodine (5-HMT), the major pharmacologically active metabolite. Both tolterodine and 5-HMT exhibit a high specificity for muscarinic receptors. There are reports that urinary bladder contraction is mediated via cholinergic muscarinic receptors. Therefore, in clinical, tolterodine L-tartrate is used for the treatment of urge incontinence and other symptoms of an overactive bladder. (The product is for research purpose only.)
