Application
Domperidone: A Peripherally Acting Dopamine D2 Receptor Antagonist
Domperidone is a peripherally acting dopamine D2 receptor antagonist with antiemetic properties similar to those of metoclopramide [M2218] . Unlike metoclopramide, however, domperidone does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier. Its antiemetic effect may be due to a combination of gastrokinetic effects and an antagonism of dopamine D2 receptor. Since the 2000s, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have issued a warning about the cardiac safety of domperidone. (The product is for research purpose only.)
